Once you figure out the actual square footage of your house, then you can multiply that by the number of fire extinguishers needed to cover the amount of space you have to protect, to determine the amount of fire protection you need for your home.

The last type of calculation involves what types of loads you can expect to have on your property. Basically, the calculations involve looking at the condition of your building submittal. What is this document that you receive from your local building department? This is a physical description of what is under construction in your specific area.

If you live in an area where there are special loads, such as electrical loads, or mechanical loads, you will need to multiply these special loads by the area of your house, and then compare them with the square footage of your home to see what the average load transfer per foot would be.
